Fire & Pine's Sustainability Practices
COMPANY ETHOS
Fire & Pine Sustainability Practices
At Fire & Pine, trees are an integral part of our business model. We couldn’t sell our beautiful burnt wall maps or patents without wood. And we couldn’t live without trees cleaning the air we breathe. That’s why protecting the world’s trees is deeply rooted in our company ethos. We regularly examine our manufacturing process — from top to bottom — to find ways to reuse, recycle, repurpose and replace the very wood that keeps us in business. Here are a few ways we put action behind our words.
Planting New Trees
All of Fire & Pine’s products are made with Eastern White Pine, a lumber type that is not endangered. However, we knew our company could do even more.
Fire & Pine recently partnered with One Tree Planted, a Vermont-based environmental non-profit organization focused on global reforestation.
Fire & Pine started the partnership with this organization by donating enough for 100 trees. For every tree our manufacturing process uses, we are dedicated to donating enough for five trees to be planted.
Recycling Wood Waste
When we started developing ways to implement sustainability practices into our everyday operations, something amazing happened. Fire & Pine began to innovate. We found unique product ideas for wood scrap — including burnt engraved wall placards and ornaments (coming to the store soon).
Additionally, we implemented a wood waste reclamation process. All of the sawdust and wood chips leftover from our manufacturing process is used by local horse farms for bedding.
Operating with a Clean Energy Source
Fire & Pine is in the process of converting our facility to solar-powered energy.
With solar panels, our company will be powered by a renewable energy source that yields no emissions, no greenhouse gases, and no fossil fuels. Solar power also requires less resources for maintenance.
In addition to reducing our carbon footprint, solar power will be a great financial move for our business — saving money on energy and maintenance.
